VR Pitch

There are many rules, regulations, and certifications when it come to the construction industry. OSHA is just one example of a training program for construction workers to learn the prevention of safety and health hazards in the workplace. Another example would be NCCCO which is a commission that makes sure your certified to operate cranes. But what if you could learn all about the safety steps or how to operate machines through seeing it in virtual reality. You would be able to see real life examples of a hazards constructions sites without actually being there, or you would be able to operate a crane without any real risks. This Virtual reality device will give you a real-life experience in numerous fields of construction. Not only will this device allow you to see these tasks but also teach you the correct way to perform them. This ranges everywhere from the more advance task like operating a crane all the way down to using a jack hammer to remove a side walk. The way that this device will operate is through an app. A list of every certification you can earn will appear. You will then choose the type of certification you would like to explore and become an expert in. It will take you through step by step on how everything works and how to operate the type of machine. It will then give you an in-field test where you have to perform every task correctly to pass the course. Once you have passed the Virtually Reality course you will be more than prepared to take a real-life test to earn your certification. The intended audiences would be construction workers or adults looking to go into the construction industry. Gender dose not play a factor and ages between 18 to 50. The way that I will reach my audience will be advertising to people trying to get certified in a certain field, or to people that are having trouble passing their test.

PTSD

In today’s society, many people are dealing with PTSD because of the effects of war. Most people do not know how to handle someone who is going through a PTSD episode. Veterans feel that no one can help them because the one trying to help them does not understand what that veteran went through and what that veteran saw. This virtual reality app will allow practitioners, counselors, family, and friends to understand what that person with PTSD is going through and it will also give them a little clip of what they went through over on the front lines.  When this app is first opened, it will ask the user which branch of the military I would like to explore. They select the branch and then the next screen asks them weather they would like to look at the front lines or the after effects of war on a person and what they see when going through a PTSD episode. If the person picks to go to the front lines then, they would see a full view of the war. They will hear everything that one would hear, see everything that one would see and nothing on this app would be downgraded or down played. They see everything the way a solider would see it. If the person choses to explore the after effects, they would see what plays through a veteran’s head when an episode happens. It will take you back to the time and place that this memory occurred and everything will be surreal for you. According to PTSD: National Center for PTSD, there are four symptoms of PTSD. Reliving the event, avoiding situation that remind you of the event, negative changes in beliefs and feelings, and feeling keyed up. The main reason for why this app should be brought to market is because we should support the veterans and help them as much as we can so they can lead as close to a normal life as they can after coming back from war. It will also help the practitioners and counselors to find a better way to connect with the veterans.

Anti-Bullying/ Suicide

Topic: Anti-Bullying/Suicide

Audience: Middle/High school students

Do you know someone or heard of someone being bullied, regardless it’s a friend, a family member, a classmate, or a peer? Have you ever witnessed bullying? This virtual reality game hits on some heavy topics about bullying, and what it’s like in a bystander’s perspective. In this game, you get to be a bystander and witness a victim being bullied physically and verbally. Throughout the game you have to find certain objects that give you a better understanding of the victim and what is happening. This means finding notes, blueprints, drawings, and letters. Each object you find reveals a flashback, which you play as in the perspective of the victim. Each blueprint and note is something that the victim invented, and could make. Once it goes back to the bystander, it continues as a scavenger hunt. After all the objects you find, it combines all of them and reveals a note. While reading the note, it takes you into the perspective of the victim. It shows you a flashback of the first day you witnessed the bullying happening, but you’re in the perspective of the victim. It reveals that the victim saw you standing there and watching this all unfold. It comes back to you reading the end of the note, which reads, “If only someone would’ve spoken up.” It then cuts out and gives a quick demonstration of what would’ve happened if you stood up to the bullying. The educational purpose of this is to inform people of bullying and its affects. It also informs people of a person who commits suicide could have had great ideas, and could have been a person who found a cure for something or invented something that’s helpful to the world. The person playing gets to feel what the victim feels along with how hard sometimes it is to be a bystander. I wanted to reach out to middle/high school students because bullying shows usually the most during those times. This game will put a student into perspective, and see how they could be helping individuals who are bullied, instead of being a silent bystander.

The World Of Astronomy VR

My audience will experience a different type of Virtual Reality, through the outer space to learn about astronomy. The things that will be taught and seen is the history or astronomy, being “is the study of the sun, moon, stars, planets, comets, gas, galaxies, gas, dust and other non-Earthly bodies and phenomena.” (Redd Space.com) Through the Virtual Reality you will be about to travel up to space, and see how some planets, stars, and etc. move, grow, change, and evolve over time. You would able to see the different views of the outer space through the either Theoretical or Observational views. (Redd Space.com) The theoretical view is seeing how the systems evolved, and study them from the beginning to the death for worlds, stars, and galaxies. Through the observational study, it will be direct focus on the stars, planets, and galaxies looking at them just through eye in VR trying to find the difference between them over time. Theoretical and Observational are a line of work that is involved in the future with making simulations over time with VR. This could be a good experience for people to see something in their life that they could never see. Traveling to space only happens for certain people and science and technology isn’t strong enough to have trips for the normal civilian. The world of space could continue for billions and billions of light years. There are always rumors of extra-terrestrial life out in space, and something that people could encounter through Virtual Reality. An example could be the newly found “Super Earth” (Folley aol.com) that is rumored to have some form of life on it. I personally seem to think and wonder what could be out there in space, and not even having a clue about what it could be. There are days where i will just look up at the stars and wondering if it is a planet or not. Some times there are days throughout the years we are able to see some planets from earth but just imagine what it would look like right in front of your face. The world of Virtual Reality can help explain great questions for any situation, but could definitely help the eye of Astronomy to the regular human so they can see what it’s like.

Pitch feedback

On each pitch post, answer the following questions in the comment section.

  1. What excites you about this project and why?
  2. What do you want to see more of and why?
  3. What additional evidence does the audience need for you to be convinced that this research is complete?

Alcohol on the Brain VR

Image result for alcohol on the brain   There are many ways in which alcohol can affect a young persons brain. At this day in age, many young adults/high school students experience the effects of alcohol but many don’t realize what goes on in the brain. A creation of a virtual reality app showing how alcohol affects the brain would help many young adults get a better understanding on this subject. This app would be targeted towards young adults, their parents, or even teachers and counselors who can reach out to individuals if they believe this app would be of any interest or help to them. In this app, the individual will get to see themselves in a sober setting and experience what that is like, and then move towards a not so sober experience. To begin with, they will be able to pick a character (male or female). This character would carry on daily tasks as a sober person, while later on, those tasks will be performed in a more difficult setting. As that setting occurs, the young adult will be able to go through the brain and see what occurs.  While inside of the brain, they will be able to study specific parts of the brain and read about why or how that part of the brain is affected. Things such as brain cells dying off, or certain parts of the brain that may become damaged. The purpose of this is to show that once brain cells die, they cannot be brought back. Once a certain part of the brain is damaged, it may not become fully repaired. The app would increase on level of difficulty. Doing tasks while the screen shows a “wobbly” setting will become much more difficult. The individual will get to experience what it’s like performing every day tasks while being “drunk”. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the symptoms one may face from drinking alcohol would be difficulty walking, blurred vision, slurred speech, slowed reaction time and even impaired memory. The app would depict all of those symptoms through the screen. This app would be very important to high school students or even students younger than that so they know beforehand what can happen when alcohol is consumed at a young age when the brain is not yet fully developed.

Gastrointestinal Track Maze

Laura J Martin. 2017

As the society grows, there are more processed foods and preservatives added to many different things that we eat. This virtual reality game focuses on learning the different parts of the stomach and their functions. Most high school students are not aware of the functions of the parts in your stomach.  In order to get through to the next level of the stomach, you have to drag the correct name to its matching counterpart of the stomach, and once you get it correct, you will collect the foods that you have eaten that day such as strawberries, pineapples, and chicken. Once you get the name of the part right, a voice over will read the function of each part. Each part will have a different voice over so the maze does not bore anyone. To make it more entertaining and calming, instrumental music of your choice will be playing while you go through the maze. You can go through the type of body you pick. It can be male or female even though the gastrointestinal track is the same. You can pick either one because they would have eaten different things or one just might prefer a specific gender. Depending on the type of person you choose, they could have a gastrointestinal problem like IBS or Crohn’s Disease. If they have either problem, you will be able to cure them or help them lower the pain in their stomach. From personal experience, I know that many people around the age 16-21 years old do not know much about their gastrointestinal track. Age groups around this age usually use their phones so a app would be a good way to target them, but if they are still in middle school and high school I would target the teachers.  I personally know that some people do not know about their gastrointestinal track like myself. I did not know that the more acidic foods you eat, the less your stomach can digest the food. In addition, when I had tremendous pain it was actually a serious problem. Having this new virtual reality game will educate the youth who do not like to research or read about certain situations. If they are interested in video games, this will be a different kind of learning game for them to experience. For this game, there are no official rules or age requirements. I hope that this game contributes to the knowledge of the youth as a whole.

Pitch

For your final project you will be creating an educational VR experience that evokes empathy. The first step in this process is to pitch your idea to your potential investors (your classmates). To accomplish this you must present:

  • A 350 word abstract in MLA format. Post this to the blog under tag “pitch.” Find examples here: http://www.umt.edu/ugresearch/umcur/sample_abstracts.php
  • A description of your intended audience and an explanation of how you will reach them.
  • A clear purpose and an explanation of why this is educational and evokes empathy.
  • Citations and evidence of research.

You will have 5 minutes to present, and I will time you. Think of this like a Shark Tank pitch. You want the presentation to be convincing, dynamic, and well researched. Be prepared to answer questions from the audience.
