The World Of Astronomy VR

My audience will experience a different type of Virtual Reality, through the outer space to learn about astronomy. The things that will be taught and seen is the history or astronomy, being “is the study of the sun, moon, stars, planets, comets, gas, galaxies, gas, dust and other non-Earthly bodies and phenomena.” (Redd Space.com) Through the Virtual Reality you will be about to travel up to space, and see how some planets, stars, and etc. move, grow, change, and evolve over time. You would able to see the different views of the outer space through the either Theoretical or Observational views. (Redd Space.com) The theoretical view is seeing how the systems evolved, and study them from the beginning to the death for worlds, stars, and galaxies. Through the observational study, it will be direct focus on the stars, planets, and galaxies looking at them just through eye in VR trying to find the difference between them over time. Theoretical and Observational are a line of work that is involved in the future with making simulations over time with VR. This could be a good experience for people to see something in their life that they could never see. Traveling to space only happens for certain people and science and technology isn’t strong enough to have trips for the normal civilian. The world of space could continue for billions and billions of light years. There are always rumors of extra-terrestrial life out in space, and something that people could encounter through Virtual Reality. An example could be the newly found “Super Earth” (Folley aol.com) that is rumored to have some form of life on it. I personally seem to think and wonder what could be out there in space, and not even having a clue about what it could be. There are days where i will just look up at the stars and wondering if it is a planet or not. Some times there are days throughout the years we are able to see some planets from earth but just imagine what it would look like right in front of your face. The world of Virtual Reality can help explain great questions for any situation, but could definitely help the eye of Astronomy to the regular human so they can see what it’s like.

Avatar- Francis

I chose this avatar as mine because the way he looks no one will mess with him as he is trying to capture the eggs. Some may think that he is here to cause trouble but he is minding his own business, and just getting the job done. The business like attire helps people to understand that he is there to do a job and capture the eggs.

Provocation Scene 8

Iris and Woodnut are starting to spend more time together, and in Iris’ bed room they are together practicing their dancing. When Woodnut had to gone there the first time, Iris and him had danced before and he was scared because he knew he was a bad dancer and didn’t want to be embarrassed in front of her. As this time seems better Iris says “You’re doing better Mr. Woodnut. Much better than last time. And vastly improved since we started,” (Haley 33) and I think they are starting to build a serious bond. Later in the scene Woodnut starts to share a personal story about how his father was more interest in the “world of his imagination” (Haley 35) than he was in Woodnut. It against the rules in The Hideaway but Woodnut ended up finishing the story. When Papa enters to grab Iris for an afternoon together she had forgot about what time is was because of how much fun Woodnut and her were having. Their time concluded right after that and Iris had gone and spent her time with Papa.

Do you think that a relationship between Woodnut and Iris is becoming strong fast? Also do you think that Iris may start spending more time with Woodnut instead of Papa?

Distractions of Online Reading

Technology has become an overwhelming factor in the world that we live in today and is overtaking normal books, magazines, etc. Some now say that technology is making the human race not as smart and is making things more difficult and complicated. Reading on a computer screen is effecting the way our brains process things and how it can be distracting. Nicholas Carr, Susanne Murphy, Paul La Farge, and Ferris Jabr all have arguments considering both methods explaining how it can either be harmful or beneficial to you. On my own experience it is a I prefer reading the text in paper which makes me have a better understanding of what I am looking at.

Nicholas Carr and Ferris Jabr are both strong believers of keeping print around and not trying to focus everything on the Internet. They both focus on how reading on the Internet has made drastic changes for them when normally reading in a book. In the article “Is Google Making Us Stupid,” Carr has many personal examples of how he is not as smart as he used to be and can feel his brain changing due to the use of technology. He says, “Now my concentration often starts to drift after two or three pages. I get fidgety, lose the thread, begin looking for something else to do,” (Carr) and how it has been putting a continuing effect on his mind the more he keeps using the Internet. I agree with what Carr is saying; when I read books I sometimes get lost in wandering within my mind, and used to looking around on the Internet page or something else instead of continuing my reading. My focus level goes way off, and my mind wanders. Ferris Jabrs article “The Reading Brain in The Digital Age: The Science of Paper Vs Screens,” has many examples and studies of how the reading paper benefits for you than reading online. A study done of seventy-two tenth grades students were split up where half were reading in text and half were on a computer. In the end results it said, “Students who read the texts on computers performed a little worse than students who read on paper,” (Jabr) which I can understand because people are focusing more on the readings in text rather than on that screen. Many people I know prefer to read text over paper. When it comes to me taking tests, quizzes, or doing homework online I tend to rush myself more and not really learn the objectives of what I needed to know. Information comes easier to me when it is taught to me, instead of me having to read it on my own. The two examples strongly relate because it shows how reading in text can help you focus better, and have a better understanding of what you are learning. You can have a better understanding of what you are reading.

On the other hand, some people prefer the new advancements of technology and enjoy reading on a screen or new E-readers. It does not affect the way they read, and they are able to process everything that is going into their brain. Paul La Farges article “The Deep Space of Digital Reading” has the sight of how technology is something new and advancing that we have to get used too. He says that “done well, it has the potential to expand and augment the very contemplative space that we have prized in ourselves ever since we learned to read without moving our lips,” (La Farge) which says that it can become easier for us. I disagree with his statement because even though that technology is having its advancements, reading a loud has always been a teaching tool. It was the number one way how I was taught to read, and it going to be the I teach my children. “Plagiarism is dead; Long Live the Retweet: Unpacking an Identity Crisis in Digital Content” shows that a lot of peoples work now are based so much off others research and most of the papers quotes and citations are all over it. Susanne Murphy states “More significantly, I believe, schools are losing an ability to matter,” (Murphy) and schools are losing control. Murphy claims that students take so much of other people’s work instead of using their own. I disagree with this statement because I use others peoples work to looks and learn what they write, then come up with my own unique things. I feel like people enjoy your work way more too when you put your own twists on things. Although when growing up in school it is taught for kids to use to cite anything they write about others work. Teachers have always stressed about making sure that you cite the things you write even when writing your own work. Although the uniqueness of one’s own work shows the kind of creative writer that you are, and where your head is at when stating the material.

It has taken deep thought about which one I would rather prefer, and I think it has come clear. Using both reading in text and reading online, I strongly prefer to read in text. The way my own experience really connects is with Jabr’s study about how students did better on the exam than the students on the computer. I always do well when I study right text and physically the paper in hand. Growing up technology was not really a big factor in my life, and reading was strongly enforced. I would always read a USA hockey kids magazine to learn about more things about hockey or any of the professional players. I was always using a book any time I would either read and know if I put my head down and grinded away in it, that I would successful learn what I needed. In the modern era that we live in today, a lot of readings that I have to do end up being online, but there are times that I find myself printing them out. Which in return helps me with my academics and helps me maintain a strong learning advantage for myself.

With the way technology is advancing as much as it does every day, that every time you go to bed and wake up some new form of technology has been created. All of this happening will change the way the new generations grow up and it will affect the way they learn to read and write. Colleges will keep updating their technology every year because they think students coming in will want to use nothing but everyday new. They always want everything to look good and have the best possible things for their students. There will never be a time that they take away from the traditional reading on text or a book, but I feel as if a lot of things will focus on digital reading. The best things for schools to focus in on the future is knowing that kids are going to get more and more used to using the computers and digital media so they need to stay on top of it.

Who i am

Who am I am you might ask? My name is Bruce Stachitas, son of Bruce and Lisa, and I was born on November 15, 1995 at Fairfax County
Hospital in Virginia. My parents were never married, and separated from each other when I was at a young age. At the age of three I moved in with my father full time, and that’s where I call home and where my life was starting be formed. In 2000 my dad got married to my step mom Stacy, and she became a huge figure in help molding my life, and turning me into the man I am today.

At a young age, my step mom would always try and make school a big aspect in my life. When learning to read and write, she would always have certain ways or tactics to help drive that out of me. She knew I didn’t like to read, so she would use that as a punishment. When I would get in trouble with my parents or anyone else, we had a stack of children books that talked about almost every scenario, either having to do with lying, cheating, or anything a child could do that was wrong. It was good way to learn right from wrong growing up, and knowing exactly what the best decisions that I could make in my life.  She was always right on top of me with my school, as well. I would try and say “Yeah, I read this,” or “Yeah, I did that,” and she would always catch me lying. Which consequentially turned out making me have to read more, or write whatever I needed at the time. My step mom helped me become a stronger reader and writer. I’m still not the best, but I can definitely thank her for always holding me accountable.

In elementary and middle school, having to go to the reading and writing tutor was my least favorite thing to do. The only thing that would get me through was knowing I could go to hockey practice right after, or go home and just relax. I don’t remember my tutors name but I do remember complaining about going to the Burtonsville library once or twice a week. I struggled in school at a young, probably because of my lack of focus in class. I tended to mess around with my friends the entire day, too. I never knew all the material in each of my classes because sometimes I would be “out to lunch” during the class period and not even give it a second of my time. Math and history were a different story, though.  I would always focus in and want to know what we were learning about in these classes. When it came to English and reading, I would just have a blank stare on my face and really have no clue with what was going on. That’s the reason I needed a tutor for those classes. I would always be behind my classmates.

Hockey will always be the only thing that I know the best in my life. That’s what I consider my “free time”, where I go to learn new things, and can just be an escape for me. Ever since I was three years old, I stepped on that ice for the first time and never looked back. It has been nothing but the main focus in my life growing up. I didn’t make the right career decisions with it growing up, but now that I have learned more about how the hockey world is, I want nothing more than to just be a hockey player for the rest of my life. To play in the National Hockey League would be nothing short of perfect. My dad even has dreams of me playing at that level, and it’s tough to think about because it would just be the ultimate goal. Hockey has driven and motivated me through life, knowing every day, that I get to the rink and put on my gear is just music to my ears. It has helped with my literacy life because I would always want to read about hockey. I would always want to know the updated news about players in the NHL along with teams, coaches, general managers or anything that would have to do with anyone or anything in the hockey world.

In conclusion, I had a pretty normal life growing up. I didn’t live with my birth parents at the same time, but anything that had been missing or not as strong in my life were always backed up. Reading and school weren’t my favorite things to do, and still are not to this day but they will be a part of it in the next three years especially. Hockey always would just come before school when I was younger, but I have figured out how to balance out both and succeed in each.
