AWE Elevator pitch

In 2016, 96,874 refugees were welcomed into the United States. However, not all of them have the means for a successful life in the United States. Asylee Women Enterprises (AWE) is a foundation that helps refugees adapt to life in the U.S., including housing, teaching English, and career placement. AWE relies heavily on the support of their volunteers and the Baltimore community, and there are a few ways the community can get involved. The AWE foundation needs volunteers to help them teach refugees the skills they need to live a successful life, drivers to help transport refugees to classes, appointments, and job training sessions. Along with volunteers, AWE needs people to donate clothes, craft items and household items. Monetary donations can be made on their website and volunteer postings are also available.

The intended audience for this foundation would be people looking to assist refugees in need by donating money, clothes, or household items. The audience could also be people looking for a way to volunteer their time to help the AWE foundation. To reach this audience, a page on the AWE website will connect people to volunteer and donation opportunities. This page will include ways to get involved with the foundation, donated goods that are in high demand, how to contribute your time or money, links to social media pages, how to sign up for a monthly newsletter, and upcoming events (links to the calendar/ news tab). This information is critical to continuing the legacy of AWE via volunteers and donations. Having this information written clearly on the website can lead to increased volunteer retention and donation rates, and by doing so, increase the longevity and success of Asylee Women Enterprises.

Some of the media that should be included on this webpage would be videos or pictures of volunteers working with the refugees, links to the social media accounts, pictures of any volunteers who ran or helped with the Baltimore Running Festival that will be advertised, and other pictures of the AWE location. These forms of media will help engage the audience and will make reading the website easier. The pictures will help break up blocks of text, spreading out the information in a way that flows better on the webpage.

  1. I really like your ideas about adding more media to the website. Seeing anything media or interactive added would defiantly make the site more use friendly. I also think you make a strong point that the main appeal needs to be to donors to help fund AWE and all the work they do.

  2. Opening with the statistics really makes an impact on your pitch. Incorporating photos to break up blocks of text was a good idea and may become a common strategy as AWE continues to update their site.

  3. Being able to link the volunteers involved in the process with refugees through social media seems like a really good idea and possible resource for refugees looking to contact someone involved with either AWE or another charitable organization. Maybe have a contact page on the AWE site itself for refugees to contact workers via phone, email or social media?

  4. I like the idea you have. Being able to modify and existing page into something better is a wonderful idea. The event tab idea is interesting, a question I would ask is what kind of information would you see in this? Is this just for the Asylee’s or is it like donation and helper events? Other than that the idea is awesome and I would consider having a volunteer sign-up here too

  5. I think that this idea to allow for people to hear about volunteer opportunities is good. I like how you included examples of how you would utilize multimedia as well. One thing that I think may help you even more in creating a page would be to find a model website that you like, and utilize that for your website page.

  6. I would suggest try adding a conclusion. While describing your pitch is a great way of making it more interesting, it would help to have a send-off to leave the reader thinking, rather than making the listener feel as if you ended right in the middle of your pitch.

  7. I like your idea of stating specific goods that the asylees need. Often, people who want to assist any organization will not know what exactly the organization needs. Since goods donations are much more personal than a monetary donation, it’s a good idea to specifically lay out what’s needed. People can then know exactly what’s needed and be confident they are directly meeting a need.

  8. I think improving the volunteer page is a good idea; that is the heart of the website so it needs to attract as much attention as possible.
