we’re here for the kids!!

For this grant, it was hard to decide what I wanted to do. But, AWE focuses on women and children which is amazing and I wanted to focus on the children because these children don’t know this area or country. But, what’s cool is that this idea works for adults as well! I feel that if we set up a Little Free Library at their location, they’ll have something to enjoy. Education and reading is important to advocate for them so this is perfect for them to have. Growing up you know you had your favorite book that you always wanted mom or dad to read, so, yes a book can be your best friend! I want to give them that option with books that you donate in the library and take one with you. I think it would be a great idea for them because it’s difficult sometimes to get to library and obviously expensive to buy books so this is an opportunity for them to have it at the step of their door. This project is affordable! We can purchase a “Free Little Library” through the website which ranges from $150-$1,000. I feel if we choose one that’s a larger built library with a post and could be around the price of $500-$700, then we could use the rest of the money to buy books to start the library! What’s great about this idea is that it’ll be there for years to come and will be a functional and interactive activity.

  1. I like this idea because not only is it helpful for them but it’s also educational. I also happen to like the idea of donating books and the idea itself wouldn’t be too costly. It will be interesting to see how both adults and children utilize the library. The role that I would like to play would be the financial officer or the event planner.

  2. I like this idea because it is educational, but includes the children. The children had to leave their home and their everyday life, and sometimes it can be hard for young children to understand why. Although AWE helps both children and adults, the adults are provided with many activities and learning opportunities, and a library can help boost the children’s learning as well. If I was chosen to work on this project, I would not mind being the project manager or communication specialist/event planner.

  3. I believe this is a winning idea because it seems attainable. Members of the community can donate their books, therefore the only cost would be creating the library and decorating it. I am interested in learning how the families feel a library will benefit them. The role I am interested in for this project is the communication specialist.

  4. I absolutely love this idea because having children be familiar with books not only helps with their education, yet gives them a sense of community and imagination. What appealed to me most is that this event is ongoing and will continue to help shape the future of children. The role I’m interested in is the financial officer or lead writer.

  5. I love this idea because it is sustainable and helpful in many aspects. The $1,500 would go to great use. As someone who loves to read, I am passionate about spreading the love of reading. This would bring in some relaxation and fun to the refugees, as well as providing them more of the U.S. culture. The role I am interested in for this project is the Lead Writer/Researcher.

  6. This one seems interesting, and I could get behind the library for kids. Plus, I love to read and these seems like a doable project.

  7. This is a great and doable project for the grant! The whole idea is to build foundations for the children and creating a mini library with the grant money is beneficial for current and future migrants AWE hopes to serve. As for the role, I think I can take on the financial officer role for the project.
