Grant Post

My idea is to work with the LIRS to have an event where refugees and those who have helped in the LIRS share their stories publicly in a TED-Talk style format and have it featured on the news. The LIRS already offers on their website an opportunity to “share your story,” and it inspires people to donate. Giving a much more public platform and bringing the stories to donors rather than trying to get the donors to visit is another option, and brings a life-like quality to the stories. It makes it personal as opposed to trying to convey feelings through a screen.

  1. I think TEDx talks have the potential to be really powerful would be a great idea and this could be a great way to reach out to people with a personal approach. I would be most comfortable taking on the Lead Writer/Research Role.

  2. I really like this idea because I love telling people’s stories. I believe that when people hear a story it can stir something inside of them, and this would not only tell a story, but it becomes so much more personal when you actually hear the person telling their story, instead of just reading it on a website. I think that this idea could benefit from a connection with Stevenson students, maybe we could help host the event, or run the event. I think I could help this team out by being in charge of the budget as Financial Officer or as Event Planner/ Communications specialist.

  3. I think this is a great idea because TEDx talks are popular and will be able to get the word out. This idea appeals to me because I like the element of story telling and spreading awareness. I could be the communications specialist/event planner because I am a business communications major and I have experience with event planning.

  4. I think that this is a winning idea because TED talks are a great way to inform people in an entertaining way. the most appealing thing about this is sharing peoples’ “stories”. This is so much more personal, and forces people to see what is actually happening. I think I could help this team out by being in charge of the budget as Financial Officer, as i am really good at numbers and figuring out the best options for a budget.

  5. I think this is a winning idea because it creates a new way to spread awareness for LIRS goal. It informs people of the stories and objectives of the organization, while also reaching out to a new audience. I like this project because the idea of using TED talks will/could improve the traffic of the organization, reaching out to new donors. TED talks are also used in educational environments, so we’ll be reaching out to students as well. I feel that I’d be most helpful with communications or advertising this idea as I am a graphic design major, having experience with communications

  6. TEDx has become so widely known all over the world. With social media spreading the word, some TED talks have nearly one million views. Spreading awareness through platforms such as youtube and Facebook is what made TED talks grow. This is such a great idea because hearing refugees stories on TEDx will open up peoples’ eyes to asylums as a whole. My role for this project would be the Communication specialist. As a Business Communication major, I have experience in event planning, public relations, and communication. I would assist in planning the talks and using social media to make this project a reality. I really love this idea!
