Programming For LIRS

According to LIRS website, they help refugees with economic empowerment. Which helps them with work opportunities and training programs. For my grant idea, I’d like to have a coding session for refugees and other migrants that are interested in a career in IT and other technology industries of the like. We could teach the basics of programming, and other IT fundamentals. This could help the individuals with building knowledge and skills for a job in the technology industry. I believe this is a great thing to do because the technology industry, unlike other industries, do not require a four year undergraduate degree in order to get a job. This way, incoming refugees and migrants who are interested in a career in technology, they do not need to necessarily go to school for it. Our programming basics session could be the beginning of a career in technology.

  1. I think this is a great idea! It is really similar to mine so I think collaborating would be a great idea! This is a great grant idea because technology is the way of the future so allowing these refugees to gain programming concepts will allow them to excel in a specific skill – in hopes that they would be able to obtain a job opportunity in that field. The part that interests me the most about this idea is the fact that people think being in the IT field is so complicated. But these refugees could open a whole new door for themselves by just learning a certain aspect of the programming. For this grant idea I would be interested in being the lead writer/researcher to help gain more knowledge on the topic.

  2. I think this would be a great idea. I think this idea is rewarding because it gives the refugees a skill that empowers them over others. By having a coding skill really helps. I like this idea a lot because it has something to do with Information Systems and that is my major so I feel as if I can help a lot with my knowledge and skills. In this project I would like to be project manager due to my skills. Great Idea!
