Grant Pitch

For my grant proposal, I would like to partner up with Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service to connect refugees and immigrants with the outdoors. LIRS vision is to allowed refugees to be, “empowered in a world of just and welcoming communities statement.” This will help to connect them with Baltimore’s community, as well as familiarize them with the area. While providing for refugees is of utmost important, time to relax is important for mental health. The $1,500 dollars would go towards equipment, whether that is sports related (such as baseball bats) or kayaks for exploring the inner harbor. This equipment would last long term and would be beneficial. Stevenson athletes could even get involved to come play with families and children in their respective sport.

  1. I love the focus you have on allowing downtime for these people. If anything, they are the ones who need it the absolute most! This idea is fantastic because it provides leisure time which isn’t always mentioned much by these organizations when it comes to the activities that are offered. I think this idea is well put together and is valuable to the health and well being of immigrants and refugees, and involves our school as well! I would like to be the lead writer/ researcher for this group.

  2. I love this idea because sports and the outdoors was always a way for me to let out steam and connect with others around me to make friends. The refugees and asylum seekers need those connections and could benefit from the relaxation that comes with it.
This project stood out because it was about relaxation for those who need it and not just encouraging them to get jobs or educate themselves, while those things are important so is self care and love. I also liked that it could get Stevenson students involved in a fun way, I am a Zumba instructor and I think it would be so fun to get involved with a community that needs a bit of energy and fun so I think other students would be willing to volunteer as well.
I think the roles I would be best at is Project Manager or Communications Specialist/Event Planner because I have leadership skills and I am a visual communication design major with experience in marketing and communications.
I wish the project the best!
