I chose this meme because I feel like it is one of the most relatable memes i’ve seen since beginning college. In middle school, I would feel so horrible for not getting at least a B on an assignment. My first time getting a 70% on an assignment in school was in 9th grade and it practically felt like my world was ending. Once I got to college, I really started to appreciate that grade because it was passing. I knew college was hard, but I didnt know how stressful and draining it was. If I saw that my grade was a 70% in any class, I would just feel so accomplished and grateful.

This is pretty accurate for me when anyone asks about college. Whether it be stress, academics, athletics, social stuff, relationships or friendships I usually just say “I’m fine”. I may not be at that moment but I know I will pull through and the slump is only temporary. People close to me see right through it and make me talk to them but with others, I don’t feel like getting into it so I just keep it to myself. Other times it really is just fine. I go about my day and do what I need to do. It may not have been enjoyable but it could have easily been a lot worse.

The day in the life of a Student-Athlete

This video was one I related to all too well. Being a college athlete for three years now, I understand the pressure and difficulty of waking up, practicing, lifting weights, going to class, another practice, game, shoot around, going to work, homework, showering and still trying to fit in a feel in between. This video showed the most extreme version of my everyday life and I love every minute of it… most days lol.

Relatable Meme About College

“Me a naturally smart college student having to study for the first time realizing I have no idea how.” Twitter. Accessed Jan 28, 2020. https://twitter.com/skinny_que/status/1175799837901676545?s=21

This particular meme is one that I resonate with. I was the type of student that never had to study for any of my classes and would ace every test. The most I would do was read over my notes or rewrite them. I was in the International Baccalaureate Program in my Junior and Senior year of high school and the only subject I reviewed frequently for was Spanish. The first time that I “studied” was spring semester of my Freshman year of college for Microbiology. A few classmates and I had study sessions but I would just read over the unit objectives and the material and ace the test (which is what I’ve always done). It wasn’t until I took anatomy last semester and realized that my no studying streak would fail me. Anatomy is one of those courses that you absolutely need to study for because there is so much information to learn in a short amount of time. I had to scramble to try out different techniques of studying only to find out what worked for me at the end of the semester. I ended up failing the class, having to retake it this semester and be a year behind in my nursing degree. All in all, this meme connects with me on a deep level.

Relatable Meme

As a fourth year colleges student, I look forward to syllabus week because it is supposed to be easy.  Ideally, the professor walks in; does a brief introduction of themselves, hands out the syllabus; goes over it briefly, and then the class introduces themselves.  This usually means, name, year, major, why you chose to take this course, and an interesting fact.  In a perfect world this takes a maximum of 30 minutes, and then the class is let out for the day.

However, this is not the case for the start of this Spring semester.  Four out of the five of my classes have all gone the full time slot.  As a class we went over the syllabus, introduced ourselves, and learned a whole lesson.  That is where this meme comes into play.  It relates to me as a college student, having the idea that the first week of school is going to be a breeze and not have work to do, but turns out, I am the victim of a hate crime, and have to sit through full classes and dive into work immediately.   This is an image of Michael Scott from The Office. With the caption "I am a victim of a hate crime."

Relateable Meme

This meme has accurately represented my experience so far in college. My teachers have definitely underestimated my power and other people’s power in the classes as well. Procrastination is real, and I work well under pressure and under a time crunch.  I consider myself a good writer, and writing seems to flow easily for me. I recently have had teachers that have said this, and I end up doing the essay the night before and finishing it by the due date. Usually when I get the essays back, I ended up getting the same grade as the ones I write a couple days before it’s due so it seems to work for me. I’ve stayed up until the early hours typing papers before, and it isn’t the most fun but I still am able to get the job done.

People go to the library only to sit on their phone.

I chose this meme because it accurately represents myself.  Whenever I try and be productive, I always find myself sitting on my phone instead of doing my work.  I have been exactly like this meme, sitting down trying to get things done, as organized as possible, but still being on my phone the entire time.  Procrastinating can be a really issue for me because I definitely like to get things done as early as possible.  I would rather do work when I know that I have plenty of time to ask any questions than do it at the last minute.  I know that this is also the case for a lot of my friends as well.  We will try to work on homework together but end up spending most of the time on our phones or talking than actually getting any work done.

I chose this meme because I really related to it. One night I pulled an all-nighter that consisted of leaving the reading room at 1 am and then finishing the paper at 5am in the common area of my dorm room. When I went to class the next day the teacher said she would push the due date back a week for everyone that was in class that day. I didn’t know if I should have felt relieved that I could spend more time on it or frustrated that I stayed up all night for basically no reason. All in all I got an A on the paper and hopefully never have to pull another all nighter!

I chose this image for the humor of it and the way it relates to my life when I came to college. When I came into school as a freshman I was 21 years old which can be quite a few years older than most incoming students. On the first day of class this meme depicts the way it felt for me in a humorous way. Although everyone around me was still a young adult, someone around me who was 18 or 19 felt like they were someone who was still in junior high. I felt out of place for a while and I’ll never forget the reactions of other students when I would tell them I was a 21 year old freshman. When they would hear my age the assumption was immediately that I was a senior who for some reason was in a freshman level class. I have always thought of this meme from Billy Madison as one that I can relate to and my first college experience.

Catch 22

I picked  this meme because it did a great job of portraying how I felt when I started looking for jobs in my field now that I’m close to graduating. Almost every single entry level position requires years of experience. The only way to gain significant experience is by working unpaid internships. Unfortunately most of us can’t  pay bills working just internships. That leaves us with very little options on what to do after college. Either get a job that is not even remotely close to your field of study, or go all in and  go to graduate school, risk it all and just postpone the inevitable mountain of debt that you put yourself in because there was a time you believed life would be easy.
